Volaris Starts New Service – Portland, Oregon to Guadalajara

Volaris, the low cost Mexican carrier is starting a new service – Portland to Guadalajara on October 11th.  The flight times are as follows:

PDX-GDL…………..Departs: 11:50 P.M. | Arriving: 06:20 A.M.

GDL-PDX…………..Departs:  7:30 P.M. | Arriving: 10:20 P.M.

Volaris is similar to many ultra-low cost carriers, as you buy into their ‘packages’. They have a basic package, a premium package, and of course, it costs money to buy these extra perks.  They also have a membership club, similar to Spirit’s $9 Fare club, called VClub, which lets you get “the best available fare”. I priced out a flight from PDX-GDL for October 11th, and it came to $561 dollars.  I wouldn’t say this is cheap at all for a low cost carrier, as the average price for this flight, using United, American, Delta, or even Alaska, came at near or around this price range. However, they were not non-stop flights.

I’ve never flown this airline, so I can’t personally comment on the product. I hope to get a coworker booked on this inaugural flight, so she can tell me how great (or not) it actually is. I am glad to see another foreign carrier land it’s bird in my hometown.  With the addition of Condor Airlines, and Icelandair, it’s great to see the the The Best Airport in the United States (2013) gets more international attention. On a side note, check out the logo on the tail wing.  When I first saw a picture of it, I thought they were censoring it for some reason. It looks blurred, but it’s actually the logo of the airline. I’ll have to come up with a cool logo for them. Happy Travels.
