The Sights and Sounds of La Boca in Buenos Aires

La Boca is known for being one of the toughest neighborhoods in Buenos Aires, Argentina. La Boca is also one of the poorest neighborhoods that are crime ridden. I wouldn’t come to La Boca during the night, but it was perfectly safe during the day. There is a touristy side of La Boca called Caminito, which I will cover in the next installment.

I walked from San Telmo to La Boca on La Defensa Street and came across Parque Lezama. Lezama Park features a carousel with lots of green scenery.

There was also a park monument and a building across from the park called the Bizcochos Canale.

La Boca is pretty much surrounded with poverty and you can see it in the deteriorating streets and houses.

There is a nicer area of La Boca located south of Parque Lezama with high rise apartments surrounded by high fences and barbed wire.

There was another park located by the high rise apartments and it was much bigger and cleaner. The park features life size chess art and views of La Bombonera Stadium where the Boca Juniors play soccer.

I absolutely love the culture and street art of La Boca. This is a picture of a closed auto shop in La Boca.

Here’s an amazing picture of street art of a wall painted to look like a house.

Here’s another picture of some more street art and I can’t tell if this is a real house or a painting!

There are many mom and pop shops in La Boca and also a farmer’s market.
