Trip Report: A Quick Jaunt to Puerto Plata in the Dominican Republic

This week, I’ll be spending two nights and three days in the Dominican Republic because a friend of mine really wanted me to check out her beautiful country. I’ve never seen a mileage run type of deal to Puerto Plata International Airport (POP) or to the Dominican Republic for that matter from Los Angeles, so I decided to redeem AA miles for the flights.

Introduction to Puerto Plata

I redeemed 35,000 American Airlines AAdvantage Miles for a round-trip economy award ticket from Los Angeles to Puerto Plata via Miami. The routing is as follows: LAX-MIA-POP-MIA-LAX.

This will be my first time in the Dominican Republic where I’ll be checking out the beautiful Caribbean beaches of Puerto Plata, Sosua, and Cabarete. I’m staying two nights at two different hotels for a total of $66 thanks to the generous $100 off $100 ‘VISA Checkout’ hotel promotion from Orbitz back in November of last year.

Just like my recent trip to Honduras, I’ll be renting a car and documenting my adventures along the way on social media.
