Requesting Missing Mileage on American Airlines for LAN and TAM Flights

Last year I booked three mileage runs to Foz do Iguacu on Orbitz for $440.46 taxes included. The flights were all operated on LAN and TAM Airlines where I added my American Airlines Executive Platinum (oneworld emerald) to earn elite status on American. Since then, I flew my first one in May on My South America Mileage Run Vacation To Foz Do Iguacu Brazil and in June on My South America Mileage Run Vacation To Puerto Iguazu Argentina.

After my first mileage run in May, I noticed that my LAN Airlines flights started to post on AA.com five days after the segment as flown. However, I did notice that one of my TAM Airlines flights did not post so I went ahead and submitted a Missing Mileage Request form on AA.com.

American Airlines makes it easy to request missing miles for AA flights and oneworld partner flights without having to fax or e-mail physical boarding passes.

I went ahead and filled out the form to submit my missing mileage request and I received an e-mail confirmation right away.

3 days later, I received another e-mail confirmation from American Airlines that they’ve received my mileage credit request for my travel on TAM Airlines and have forwarded my information to them.

Within a week later, I received credit for my flight on TAM Airlines from Foz do Iguacu to Sao Paulo (IGU-GRU).

I noticed that I only received 531 miles for the flight and no bonus miles. I had realized that TAM Airlines does not offer bonus redeemable miles on their operated flights according to this website. I doubled checked my ticket and I was actually on a LAN codeshare on LAN ticket stock, but I put in TAM Airlines on my missing mileage request.

Long story short, I tried to correct it with American Airlines over the phone and they said that I was SOL. The good thing was that I was only out 531 redeemable miles since I received 531 elite qualifying miles with TAM operated flights.

Last week I came back from my second mileage run and noticed that two of my TAM operated (LAN codeshare) flights did not post at all, even after five days.

I will have to wait a few more days to request missing mileage credit on American Airlines, but rest assured I won’t be putting in ‘TAM Airlines’ and make the same mistake as I did last time. I will put my LAN Codeshare flight number where I’ll earn 100% elite qualifying and 100% redeemable miles. Don’t make the same mistake like I did!

Have you had any headaches with TAM and/or LAN Airlines flights not posting correctly to your American Airlines AAdvantage account?

  1. Thank you for the tip! I’ll be flying to the falls this autumn on the way to EXP for the first time and very well could have made the same mistake.
