Trip Report: My South America Mileage Run Vacation to Foz do Iguacu Brazil

Earlier this morning, I embarked on a four day trip to Foz do Igaucu, Ciudad del Este, Sao Paulo, and Santiago. I’m spending two days on the Brazilian side of Foz do Iguacu where I’ll be visiting the beautiful waterfalls and crossing the border to neighboring Ciudad del Este in Paraguay. Then I will fly to Sao Paulo where I’ll be spending 23 hours in the city and then a 12 hour layover in Santiago, Chile.

Introduction to Foz do Iguacu

I will be flying on LAN Airlines and TAM Airlines through South America and my total cost of the ticket was $440.46 which I bought last year during Thanksgiving thanks to the guys over at The Flight Deal. I actually bought 3 of these tickets and I’m barely flying my first one!

My routing looks something like this: LAX-LIM-IGU-GRU-SCL-LAX.

I’ll be crediting my miles towards American Airlines and with the reduced LATAM intra-South American mileage earnings, I’ll be earning a total of 11,248 miles at a rate of 3.9 cpm.

It’s going to be a fast paced whirlwind of a trip where I’ll be visiting four different cities in four different countries in a short amount of time. These are the trips I live for and as always, I will be sharing my adventure with you guys on my social media channels.

  1. Curious…what is your Brazilian visa situation for these types of runs?

  2. What application/ website are you using to create a flight map? thanks
