Windsor Atlantica Rio de Janeiro Hotel Review

Initially I was only supposed to be in Rio de Janeiro for two nights and three days, but due to unfortunate circumstances with my American Airlines flight, the plane went mechanical. After further delays, the flight was eventually cancelled and I was forced to spend another night in Brazil. Back in April, I wrote about My First Cancelled Flight Experience and 24 Hour Nightmare in Rio de Janeiro.

I spent the night at the Windsor Atlantica Hotel in Rio de Janeiro courtesy of American Airlines. Since my flight was cancelled, American Airlines offered all the passengers transportation to and from the hotel, dinner that same night, and breakfast/lunch the next morning which was all free of charge.

The Windsor Atlantica Rio de Janeiro Hotel advertises its location in Copacabana, but in reality it is technically located in the Leme neighborhood which is close to border of Copacabana. There are several ways to getting to the hotel, one of which I recommend taking the Real Executive Onibus from Rio de Janeiro International Airport to Centro where you can take a bus towards Leme and Copacabana. Another alternative way is to take a taxi, but it will be one expensive ride.

American Airlines provided transportation to the hotel in an air conditioned bus directly to the Windsor Atlantica Hotel in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil where we boarded at 2am and arrived at the hotel at 3am. Check-in was a total disaster, but thankfully I was one of the first passengers to secure a room.

I was asked to fill out some paperwork and I was eventually handed meal vouchers and the room key.

I was given a Deluxe King room which was very upscale and aesthetically pleasing. The room consisted of an executive desk, TV, full minibar with mini fridge, King sized bed, and a small chair with a table.

The bathroom had black marble countertops with a sink and a standing shower.

A really late dinner was being served at 3:30am where there was a hosted buffet at the hotel restaurant for us distressed passengers. I was super hungry and helped myself to two full plates of delicious food. I was surprised that there was steak and seafood being served at 3:30am.

I slept for a few hours before heading to the hotel’s rooftop to check out the amazing sweeping views of Rio de Janeiro.

Lunch was being served at noon and there was a sign regarding information on passengers on American Airlines flight 974. Basically we were told to meet at the lobby at 3pm so that we could have ample time to make the 8pm flight.

Lunch consisted of mostly the same items from the previous night and it was delicious.

I was very impressed with the Windsor Atlantica Hotel as they were very accommodating and the staff was friendly. The rooms were luxurious and the food was very upscale. It was a nice gesture from American Airlines to put us up in a luxury hotel in Copacabana which made passengers felt like they were a valued customer.
