American Airlines GIG-JFK 767-300 Business Class

I got to the airport for my evening departure to New York and the plane went through a series of mechanical delays which eventually resulted in the flight being cancelled. I wrote about My First Cancelled Flight Experience and 24 Hour Nightmare in Rio de Janeiro. Subsequently, I wrote How to Handle a Flight Cancellation at a Brazilian Airport if you’re ever in this situation.

I stayed overnight at the Windsor Atlantica Rio de Janeiro Hotel where I was re-booked on a flight to New York the following day. The flight duration from Rio de Janeiro to New York City is approximately 10 hours.

The Business Class cabin on the Boeing 767-300 (763) is in a 2-2-2 configuration with angled flat seats.

I always choose the middle section because I have direct aisle access to the bathroom.

I had a glass of champagne as a pre-departure beverage.

There was also a Business Class amenity kit (not pictured) that was already placed in a storage compartment in front of me.

The Business Class menu reads as follows:

After the flight reached cruising altitude, the flight attendant passed out hot mixed nuts with a beverage of my choice. I had cranberry vodka with lime which is my favorite in-flight cocktail.

The starter consisted of smoked salmon carpaccio, salad, and mini pao de queijo (Brazilian cheese bread) which was delicious. I love cheesy bread (who doesn’t?).

GIGtoJFKaa13

I had the Chateaubriand which was overcooked and a bit rough. Next time I’d choose the fish option.

You can’t go wrong with dessert with a signature American Airlines made to order ice cream sundae. I always have it with ‘a little bit’ of everything. Remember, calories don’t count in the air. 😉

After the meal, I went to sleep and I had the flight attendant wake me up for breakfast which was an hour before landing. I had the ham and cheese omelet which was absolutely disguising (apologize for the blurry picture). Omelets should be abolished from all American Airlines flights.

The service on this flight was excellent as always on American Airlines international flights, but the food left me in total disgust. I wish the Beef Filet would be replaced instead of the rough and dry Chateaubriand. I would almost rather have the pizza as a pre-arrival breakfast instead of the nasty omelet. After the flight was delayed for 24 hours, all I wanted to do was get home.
