I took a bus and headed to Centro Rio de Janeiro after visiting the Christ the Redeemer statue. My first experience with the Rio bus was quite lovely. You pay a fare to the turnstile operator (separate from the bus operator) and you have to squeeze through a little turnstile. You don’t need exact change as the turnstile operator can give you change. In this case, my fare was R$2.95 which was much cheaper than a taxi.

I got off in front of the Rio de Janeiro Cathedral also known as Catedral de São Sebastião do Rio de Janeiro.
Nearby the Cathedral was a local theater called Teatro Nelson Rodrigues.
I was in the heart of the financial district surrounded by many office workers. As you can see this picture might look a lot like New York City full of yellow taxis and busses surrounded by skyscrapers.
I walked further towards the heart of the city center of Centro Rio and I couldn’t help but notice that there were so many banks on every corner.
There are street vendors selling paintings near the Theatro Municipal do Rio de Janeiro in the Cinelandia district.
Around the Cinelandia metro station, there was a building called Câmara Municipal do Rio de Janeiro which is the Municipal Chamber of Rio de Janeiro.
Nearby across the street was the National Library of Brazil.
There was a large police presence around the Palácio da Justiça do Estado do Rio de Janeiro – Fórum Central which is called the Palace of Justice.
Nearby the Forum was the EMERJ legislative building which is the Escola da Magistratura do Estado do Rio de Janeiro.
I was very close by to Praca XV which is called Plaza 15.
Around Praca XV, there are many street vendors surrounded by multiple ferry stations.
Praca XV is an important transportation hub for people coming to and from Niteroi by ferry. Underneath Praca XV, there is a huge bus station transporting people to different parts of Rio. As you can see, many people are walking towards the city center of Rio from Praca XV.
