The Various Eats in Rio de Janeiro Brazil

I only spent less than 34 hours in Rio de Janeiro, so I didn’t have time to eat much of anything! However, if you want to see more picture of food I took in Brazil earlier this year, please check out this page: The Various Eats in Sao Paulo Brazil. Through my trip index below you will also be able to find eats I had at the Sheraton Rio and at the Rocinha favelas.

I walked all over Centro Rio de Janeiro and I found a lot of street food that the cariocas (Rio locals) like. There are a lot of vendors selling coconuts and nuts in a variety of flavors.

You can also find street carts that sell Acai and coxinhas.

I went to a kilo restaurant in Centro Rio called Salpico. It was in the hustle and bustle of the financial district.

There were many dishes to choose from like salads, Brazilian specialties, and even sushi.

When you get to the pay station, they weigh your plate in kilograms and you pay by the kilo. In my case, each kg was R$54.90/kg and my weight was .838 kg which came out to R$46.01 ~ $20 USD for lunch which wasn’t too bad.

I also grabbed a cool refreshing Guarana soft drink which is a local favorite.

The next day, I had an early dinner at Pilograma in Centro Rio de Janeiro before I left for the states. It was another kilo restaurant and the prices were almost half the cost!

There was a reason why the cost was greatly reduced. The food just wasn’t that great and not as fresh as Salpico. I felt like I was eating leftovers, so you do get what you pay for in kilo restaurants.
