Points Summary

The Sights and Sounds of Central Hong Kong

Hong Kong has basically two areas of interest for tourists, Kowloon and Hong Kong Island which is separated by the Victoria Harbour. Since I only had two full days in Hong Kong, I spent the first day exploring the Kowloon side of Hong Kong and the second day exploring Central on Hong Kong Island.

Central is basically the central business district with corporate banking institution skyscrapers.

I found the Central district of Hong Kong to be very clean and organized. Taxis usually make up most of the cars on the road.

Walking is the preferred method along with taking the MTR (mass transit railway) subway system.

Another form of transportation is the tram network that can be found in the Central district.

High end shopping can be found near Central MTR Station such as Louis Vuitton, Dolce & Gabbana, Ermenegildo Zegna, Hermes, Rolex, and De Beers.

There were also parks and churches in the Central district.

One of the best malls in Central is the IFC Mall which also houses the Hong Kong MTR Station. You can literally spend all day at the IFC mall since there’s a movie theater, plentiful dining, and a plethora of shops including an Apple Store.

One of the best things about Hong Kong MTR Station is the “In-town Check In” which is the fastest way to the airport via train.

Basically if you’re staying on Hong Kong Island and you need to get to the airport, you don’t have to take an expensive taxi or a long bus. You can buy a single journey ticket from Hong Kong Station to the Airport (with 1 stop in Kowloon) for 100 HKD ~ $12.88 USD. The best part is that you can even check in your bags at Hong Kong Station and get your boarding pass from a real airline counter!
