Indecisive…needs help! 1 Night in NYC, too many @SPG Choices!

I will be in NYC next week and made one of the worst oops a person can make. I only booked 4 nights when I needed 5.  Of course, now hotel rates have soared and so I’m going to use points to book 1 night.  Choices, choices…

I’m staying at a Starwood property for two reasons 1) I’m trying to get to 100 nights before Mark D (@mdditt2000)  and 2) I have plenty of points to use!

I’m trying to decide between:

St. Regis NY – never stayed before but recently stayed at the St Regis Bangkok and LOVED it.

Le Parker Meridien – have stayed before and LOVE it.  Who can turn down Burger Joint and the amazing breakfast at Norma’s.  Have always been upgraded to a nice suite.

W Times Sq –  have stayed before but never seem to get upgraded.  Good location.

The Chatwal – have never stayed, and it’s 10,000 points more than the other hotels, so it’s not at the top of my list at the moment.

Where would you stay??  I just can’t make up my mind.  But I have do decide quickly…my trip is next week.

  1. check out the Sheraton Tribeca!

  2. I stayed at the Parker Meridian in January and wasn’t that impressed, although I enjoyed their bathroom products. We also stayed at the Manhattan at Times Square. Avoid that hotel at all costs. I wouldn’t stay there again if it was free. If I had to pick from your list, I’d say St. Regis.

  3. The St. Regis is obviously fantastic. The location means you’ll be closer to shopping @ 57th St. and Rockefeller Center, but far from Times Square and downtown. It’s on par with Le Parker Méridien location-wise.

You can still get around and it’s not far from public transportation, but if you’re driving (don’t) or take cabs the traffic can be kind of hairy.

If you want to be closer to Times Square and more tourist-y stuff (for whatever reason) then the W/Westin Times Square are better located, even though it’s obviously a different caliber hotel.

  4. cash and points ;O

  5. The Parker Meridien was a great option at category 5. I’m totally unimpressed at category 6.

Burger Joint is convenient, call downstairs from your room and walk to the front of the line. 🙂

Platinums generally get a junior suite. So all decent enough, especially now that there’s a breakfast benefit!

But overall the property is fine, it’s serviceable, it’s nice enough. But not at all special (but then little in New York actually is).

You consider the W Times Square a good location, I couldn’t imagine a worse lcoation 😛

The Chatwal is going to be the best stay IMHO and what I would choose if price were not an issue.

A one night stay is a great opportunity to try something new! Stay somewhere you’ve never been. Even a non-SPG hotel…. maybe my usual the Andaz 5th Avenue… maybe the new Conrad?

  6. @Gary,
    Thanks for the thoughts.
I was starting to lean toward the St Regis…but maybe I’ll try Chatwal since I haven’t tried it.

Try a non-SPG hotel before I hit 100 nights? Crazy, just crazy!

Stay at a non SPG hotel so that I can catch up next week. I am only at 75 nights.. I also have two options

    1) Sheraton Louisville
    2) 21c mucsum hotel

Guess its the Sheraton since it’s first to 100. 🙂

    Mark

  8. Perhaps you’ll be stalked by Lady Gaga if you head to the St. Regis? A celeb hangout would be my first choice because the stories last longer than the burgers.

  9. Definately stay at the St. Regis. It’s unbelievable. The only problem is you will want to stay there every time. You probably won’t get upgraded (so many platiunum SPG member stay there) but it doesn’t matter, the smallest room is nicer than most other hotel suites. I liked the Chatwall too. Excellent lobby bar & restaurant. Have fun in NYC.

  10. @Mark – I think Lady Gaga is following me on my world tour 🙂

  11. @Mark D – haven’t been to either of those.
