Destinations You Dream About

Are there destinations you dream about?  Places or things that you long to see?  I have been extremely lucky that I’ve been able to cross a lot of those places off of my list, but there are still plenty of places to see.

In 2013 I crossed some big items off my list.  I went to Alaska in November to see the Northern Lights and actually, that trip left me wanting to see them again.  I went to all of the major Hawaiian Islands and went whale watching.

For many years, Thailand was on my list of “destinations you dream about” and I’ve had ample opportunity over the last 4 years to explore all of Thailand.

In 2012, I visited Angkor Wat in Cambodia and that was a big item on my destinations you dream about list!  Angkor Wat is amazing and something that you should see if you’re in that region.   I also spent some time in Vietnam, Singapore and Malaysia though they weren’t on my dream list I was glad to see them.

Australia was on my destinations you dream about list but after visiting, I wasn’t sure what all the hype is about. Sure, it’s laid back and there is some spectacular scenery and places to visit, but overall I felt like there are other places I’d rather see.   I didn’t make it to New Zealand, but I hope to this year.

Fiji was on my list and I made it there in 2011. Fiji is stunning and the people are what makes the island unique.  I would return to Fiji, that’s how much I enjoyed my time there.  There are so many other islands to explore and things to see, a week there was too short.  I was there at Christmas and it was a great experience to see how another culture celebrates.  The Fijians held a luau like the ones I saw in Hawaii this year.

In Europe, I’ve seen the majority of the places on my list, but there are still a few places I need to checkoff the list.  I love London and have been several times of the last few years.  Belgium and The Netherlands were on the list and I got to see both in 2013.  If you have’t seen the tulips in The Netherlands, you need to add that to your list.  It’s amazing.

Two places that are still on my destinations you dream about list are Africa (the southern parts of the continent) and Iceland, I’d like to see the Northern Lights there!  I was trying to get to South Africa in 2014, but it looks like that trip will be in Spring of 2015, so that leaves 2014 open for Iceland or some other great destinations.

  1. I have spent around 2 years in Malaysia and had opportunity to visit perhentian, tioman and redang islands and I still remember those..my visits were in 2004/2005 timeframes so lot must have changed but I would highly recommend those spots. Since then I have visited many islands in caribbean like Grand Cayman, Aruba, St Martin and Curacao to name a few but still want to go back to those Malysian islands for their untouched beauty…Sipadan was another island I always wanted to go but could not make it during my stay there..

You should add Iguazu Falls at the conjunction of Brazil and Argentina to your list and Bariloche, Argentina and also Paine del Torres, Chile, to the list of gorgeous things to see. And while you’re at ut, the terracotra warriors in Xian, China, are pretty extraordinary, too!

  3. I would love to go on an African safari, either to Masai Mara or Namibia. Africa is such a huge continent that there are so many incredible places to visit there.
