Smart Check-In From Starwood: A Whole New Way To Arrive In Style

Two weeks ago, I mentioned on my blog that I received an invitation from Starwood to try their Smart Check-In program at participating Aloft hotels.

I finally opened the letter in the mail today containing my personalized RFID Starwood Aloft Hotels Smart Check-In card.

The letter reads:

A whole new way to arrive in style: Smart Check-In

Your pass to a fabulous room without the front-desk detour.

Congratulations on being one of the Starwood Preferred Guest members specially chosen to participate in Smart Check-In, an exclusive program at select Aloft hotels. Book now at the Aloft Cupertino, Aloft Dallas Downtown, Aloft Lexington, Aloft Harlem or Aloft New York Brooklyn to enjoy this convenient check-in process.

Here’s how the program works:

Your Key. Your new Aloft-brand SPG card will serve as an SPG Member Card and a room key for all your stays at any Aloft hotel participating in Smart Check-In. Please do not discard your regular Starwood Preferred Guest Member Card. The new Aloft-brand SPG card has been created for this program only and does not replace your regular member card.

Your Room. On the arrival date of your next stay that is booked at least 24 hours in advance, we’ll text your room number directly to your mobile device (as provided on the Smart Check-In online registration form).

You’re Set! When you arrive at the Aloft participating in Smart Check-In, simply bypass the front desk and go straight to your room. Touch your Aloft-brand SPG card to the door lock to unlock it – you’ll be checked in automatically.

If you don’t already have a reservation at the Aloft Cupertino, Aloft Dallas Downtown, Aloft Lexington, Aloft Harlem or Aloft New York Brooklyn, book today at SPG.com. With your Aloft-brand SPG card, you won’t need to check in at the front desk when you arrive, but you’ll still enjoy full access to the services of the Aloft front desk throughout your stay. Any costs incurred during your stay will be charged to the credit card used to book your reservation.

Feel free to stop by the Aloft front desk at any time if you have questions or concerns. Also, please note that while your new Aloft-brand SPG card does not list your specific member tier, you’ll still receive all the benefits of your tier during your stays.

Thank you for your participating in this program, and we look forward to hearing your thoughts and suggestions about Smart Check-In.

I can’t wait to book a participating Aloft that utilizes this new Smart Check-In technology. Here is a brief video overview on how this whole program works:

  1. Wouldn’t you still have to go to the front desk to choose your amenity? And it will most likely still be the same time allotment as checking in as choosing your amenity since they still have to access your account manually. The only time you save is a few seconds since they don’t have to issue you a new key card.
