The Various Street Foods in Shanghai Part 1

Yesterday, I blogged about restaurant eats in Shanghai and today I will show you the various kinds of street food that I came across eating. Like I said previously, I literally took more pictures of food than anything. Parts 2 and 3 will focus on various street foods in different neighborhoods of Shanghai.

On my first night in Shanghai, I went out to East Nanjing Road and was craving Boba milk tea.

Interestingly enough, the Boba milk tea was served hot. I asked for ice, but the lady said that there was none. I’d rather have it on ice since the hotness of the drink literally burned my tongue. The drink was 9RMB which is ~$1.47USD.

On my second day, I ventured out to the Yuyuan Garden Bazaar to try some street food.

I had some dim sum which was relatively cheap and delicious.

Inside the Yuyuan Bazaar, I found a street cart serving chicken satay and squid on a stick.

I tried the chicken satay and it was delicious.

In another area of the Yuyuan Bazaar, there was a plethora of street food vendors set up in individual stalls.

I tried out some crispy pork buns and it was also delicious.

I found a nearby vendor selling wonton and fish ball soup.

The wonton melted in my mouth and the fish balls were filling. I slurped up the whole soup and was practically full.

If there’s one thing that you need to try in Shanghai, it’s a Portuguese egg tart from Lillian Cake. Lillian Cake shops can be found all over Shanghai, but I went to one in the French Concession neighborhood.

These Portuguese egg tarts are amazingly delicious and were the most memorable thing I ate during my trip.
