I took the Transmetro BRT (bus rapid transit) to get to the city center of Guatemala City. I could’ve taken a street taxi, but what’s the fun in that? The city center of Guatemala is where all the action takes place and it’s full of architecture, history, and culture. The Centro downtown part of Guatemala City is also known as Zona 1 or Zone 1.

The first thing I noticed when I stepped off the bus was that the one of the main streets were closed to cars. I saw bicyclists and the first thing that dawned on me was that I visited on a Sunday where Ciclovia happens in many cities.
There were a lot of street performers on the now pedestrian only street.
Centro Guatemala City is home to one of several parks such as the Parque Concordia. The definition of a park in Guatemala City means some areas are green, but not all. Parks in Guatemala City look more like plazas where people hang out, but not there to fly a kite or picnic.
There are also many important government buildings located in downtown Guatemala City.
This is the famous Metropolitan Cultural Centre which is also known as the old National Post Office Building.
Everything dies down on Sundays in Guatemala City because it’s a rest day. However, there was one shopping center that was open.
There’s also a lot of street art and graffiti in Centro Guatemala City.
There’s also a Museo de la Universidad de San Carlos and an Art Museum.
There’s also a national library called the Biblioteca Nacional in Guatemala City.
There are also many fast food restaurants available in Guatemala City such as Domino’s Pizza.
In addition, there are many churches located in downtown Guatemala City.
