After visiting Plaza Uruguaya, I ventured towards downtown Asuncion where I noticed that there was a plethora of parks. Paraguayan people love public spaces such as parks for relaxation and to chat with friends. In addition, many locals love to sip on their terere between downtime.

I stumbled upon a public park called Juan E O’Leary in Asuncion where there was an Expoferia Artesanal (Handicraft market).
There were a lot of local vendors selling artesanal handicrafts to tourists. The only problem was that there aren’t many tourists that come to Asuncion, Paraguay, so it was relatively empty.
Paraguayans love foreigners and I bought a shot glass from this local woman. She even offered to hand engrave my shot glass for free which was unexpected. I love personal touches on souvenirs.
Plaza Juan E O’Leary is definitely THE place in downtown Asuncion to purchase local souvenirs as the prices are inexpensive.
Across the street from Plaza Juan E O’Leary, you can find street vendors selling counterfeit merchandise such as designer dress shirts, watches, and sunglasses.
You can also find counterfeit designer handbags on Calle Palma in downtown Asuncion. The government doesn’t regulate counterfeit goods in Asuncion, so they are openly sold out in the open.
