Booking Award Travel – Here Come The Nightmares & enter to win 10K @HiltonHHonors points

You’ve worked all year collecting points & miles and now it’s time to use them.  Let the nightmares begin!  Booking award travel – even for an avid traveler like me – can be an ordeal.  Luckily, booking hotels is a whole lot easier than booking airline award tickets.

Each year, I plan a major trip for December. This year, I’m going on a girls trip to South East Asia with 3 other women.  Booking air travel is the most painful part of the annual trip.  Every year I spend hours pouring over flight options, comparing routes, searching the ANA website (for Star Alliance award flights) before finally calling US Airways to book.  I usually spend anywhere from 1 hour to upwards of 3 hours on the phone with one, or more, US Air agents trying to nail down the perfect itinerary without breaking the points bank.

This year, I couldn’t stomach the idea of spending that much time on the phone and on the internet planning this trip (not to mention the fact that I didn’t really have time due to a very crazy schedule.)   So I started looking for Award Booking Services.   I found that several boarding area bloggers offer this type of service.  I decided to ask Gary aka View From The Wing for assistance.  Gary’s service Book Your Award was a great way to go.  Instead of having nightmares, within 24 hours I had an amazing itinerary.   The process was so easy!  Answer some questions, provide Gary with your points/miles info, and away you go!  Now, normally Gary will call the airline and book the award for you, but I decided to call on my own.   With the itinerary Gary planned, I called US Airways (Chairman Preferred line) and spent no more than 20 minutes on the phone start to finish.  Now, if you’re not calling an elite/preferred phone number, you might opt to have Gary call so you can avoid longer wait times.

So what did Gary help me book?  I booked a 25 day vacation to some of the most exotic and exciting locations in South East Asia.  I spent 120k US Airways miles to fly all but 1 segment in First Class (there’s one segment in Business on Singapore Airlines)

  • I’ll fly from LAX to PEK (Beijing, China) on Air China in first class (thanks to @JohnMooreNow for helping me confirm that the Air China flights are in the new lie-flat first class configuration!)  From PEK I’ll fly onto SIN (Singapore) on Singapore Airlines in first class (not a suite).   I’ll spend 5 days in Singapore.  Two nights at the St Regis Singapore and 3 nights at the Sheraton Singapore Towers.
  • From Singapore I’ll fly to Langkawi, Malaysia. I’ll spend 4 nights at the Sheraton Langkawi Resort.  From  Malaysia I will fly to Cambodia and spend 3 nights at the Le Meridien Angkor Siem Reap, Cambodia. From Cambodia I’ll fly back to SIN for 1 night – have no idea where I’ll stay yet.   (NOTE: The flights on this portion of the trip were not booked using miles)
  • From Singapore I’ll fly to Bangkok on Singapore Airlines in Business Class (the only business leg of points ticket I booked). I’ll spend 3 nights at the St Regis Bangkok and 2 nights at the Sofitel Sukhumvit Bangkok.   Christmas Eve Dinner at L’Appart at the Sofitel.
  • From Bangkok I will fly to Vietnam and spend 3 days in Ho Chi Minh City at the Sheraton Saigon Hotel & Towers. From Vietnam, I will fly to Krabi, Thailand and spend 3 nights, including NYE, at a hotel TBD (NOTE: The flights on this portion of the trip were not booked using miles)
  • Finally, I will fly back to BKK from Krabi to start the journey back to the US.  I will fly from BKK to PEK on Thai Air First Class. I will then fly from PEK to LAX on Air China First Class.
So that’s how you use a booking service to plan an amazing adventure.  The time that Gary saved me is invaluable and I would highly recommend using a booking service.  In addition, I have taken all of the suggestions from my blog post: Help Me Plan My Next Vacation into account for this trip!  Thanks for all the great advice. I am really looking forward to the vacation and sharing some great trip reports.

  1. So many, hard to choose:-)

How about Bali because it is on my list for my 2013 travel target getting there on Cathay Pacific. Unless SO keeps insisting on Paris…

  2. My dream destination is Easter Island with the ancient statues. Why? It is a reminder that all things end, including civilizations, and we must spend our short lives traveling as much as possible.

  3. My dream destination is anywhere in Vietnam. I’m a first generation Vietnamese-American, and I’ve never been back yet!

  4. I guess I’d pick Italy with its great food and sites–both natural and man made.

  5. It’s not yet available with miles yet, but I believe it will be in our lifetimes (hey, this is a dream trip…)… I would like to do a full orbit around the earth.

  6. My dream vacation is in Beijing, China. Walking down the hutong, old narrow valleys in old Beijing, listening to Peking opera and going through antiques in the forbidden city would be my dream. Moreover I have friends from China who showed me skyscrapers all over the CBD in Beijing. So I thought it’s a great city of modernity in traditions. I’d love to visit Beijing for some days at least!!!!

  7. I am going to say Durban in South Africa just because of how beautiful and relaxing the place is.

  8. In Hawaii, with my parents, where they were married 44 years ago.

  9. My dream destination is Australia because it is beautiful with quite a range of sights.

  10. Seychelles….beautiful and pristine beaches

  11. Necker Island. The only thing better than an island in the tropics is Your OWN island in the tropics 🙂

  12. My dream destination is the Galapagos Islands because I love to observe species in their natural habitats.

  13. My dream destination is New Zealand but I will need to take a little side trip back to the Great Barrier Reef since that truly is a destination worth repeating!

  14. Crete – My Mom’s family was from Crete before the emigrated to the US. The rest of the family was wiped out in WWII. I’d love to go there and walk in their foot steps and delve into what ever records still exist of my family’s presence.

I would love to take the wife to Rome and enjoy the sights and food staying at the Rome Cavalier I!

  16. Dream trip would have to be Antartica. I have been wanting to go there since I was a kid and the desire still has not subsided. If anything, it has increased now that I have traveled a bit. One day I hope to make this trip happen.

  17. ArizonaGuy | June 21, 2012 at 12:07 am |

A return to Tasmania. I obsess over anything Irish and so following the history Irish “criminals” who were “transported to the other side of the world” has been part of my obsession. I’ve only scratched the surface of the island and need to return!

  18. My dream destination – South East Asia – vibrant culture of multiple countries and the amazing people.

Meanwhile how did you get F in most flights with 120K miles … I am missing something here … 120K on US for North Asia … SIN/BKK are part of South Asia and it is 160K for F …

  19. I would LOVE to go to New Zealand – home to the adventure capital of the world! I’d take full advantage of the amazing hiking terrain, and also as a newly certified diver, I’d imagine there’s cool creatures off shore to discover. Not to mention my good friend recently moved back there to be close to his children, and I miss him. Can’t wait to get out there someday and have him show me a piece of his life.

  20. My dream vacation destination is Fiji. Fiji is a far away paradise island where not a lot of people I know have visited. It’s pristine and just the perfect location to be away from it all! 🙂

Vladivostok, but NOT in the winter— I am a retired ESL (English-as-a-Second Language) teacher, and I studied Russian language 40 years ago as part of my university training. Unfortunately, I never had the opportunity to use the Russian language much or to travel to Russia, except for 1 short trip to Moscow and St. Petersburg. However, I am presently taking an intensive Russian language course at the University of Simferopol in the Ukraine. I hope to make it to Russia in the near future. So,………..exotic Vladivostok would be great!

  22. HockeyCoachBen | June 21, 2012 at 1:58 am |

Bora Bora or Fiji top my list of dream vacation spots, because as Vince Vaughn said in “Couple’s Retreat”, those places “look like a screensaver!”

  23. I would choose Salah, Oman. The sultan has done wonderful things with healthcare and education, which has created a happy people. It would be great to mix the culture of a UNESCO Heritage site and the frankincense trail with diving and relaxing by the sea!

  24. wow! how did u manage to book SQ F from PEK-SIN? i never knew they released the refurbished seats to US miles.. thats great news!

  25. Capetown, because of the trip reports I’ve read on flyertalk.

  26. I think I would like to go the Hungary. My Great-Aunt was from there and frequently spoke of how beautiful it was and about the rich culture. And I LOVE the food!

  27. traveldealexpert | June 21, 2012 at 5:28 am |

New Zealand….because it is easily one of the most beautiful places on Earth!

  28. BothofUs2 | June 21, 2012 at 5:31 am |

Australia and New Zealand, on points. I have seen some amazing photos of places in those countries and would like to see it in person.

  29. Dream vacation is Bhutan to see the festival then travel to Tibet.

  30. I’d love to walk in the footsteps of the ancient Romans in Pompeii..

  31. My dream destination is the Plain of Jars in Laos. I’ve seen photos and what intrigues me the most is that nobody really knows who built the jars and why.

  32. My dream is a trip to Thailand, which we are actually taking in December. We will be visiting Bangkok and Khao Lak.

  33. There’s a lot of places to choose from…

Right now I’m starting to work on planning an “Ancient Cities” tour for next year – Rome, Athens and Istanbul and trying to figure out one or two more stops along the way.

  34. johnmoorenow | June 21, 2012 at 7:16 am |

Conrad Maldives Rangali Island is my dream destination as I look forward to the night that I have dinner with the fish in the underwater restaurant…http://conradhotels3.hilton.com/en/hotels/maldives/conrad-maldives-rangali-island-MLEHICI/index.html

Also, they have an option to convert the restaurant into a bedroom for an overnight stay…now how cool would that be!

  35. I want to go back to the beautiful Hilton in Queenstown, NZ. We were treated there like royals, were upgraded to a suite and breakfast is amazing. There is SO much to do in the area, hiking and skiing to just name a few and you are just a stone through from the most amazing sounds (Doubtful and Milford). Hard work during the day and a relaxing evening with great NZ wine in front of the fire in your room or here:
    http://static.stuff.co.nz/1311743171/944/5348944.jpg

  36. If you need any help with your visits to Siem Reap, Bangkok, Cambodian visa, or Ho Chi Minh City, PM me at FT zippyonthego.

  37. My dream destination is going to south east asia (your itinerary described above is pretty much my dream itiinerary), Siam Reap, Bangkok, Vietnam. It is my dream since I have heard that beaches are paradise, cities are vibrant and people are friendly and sincere. Consider yourself lucky that you will fly first class, spend 25 days in propably amazing destinations in premium hotels, be treated very nicely. You are living my dream!

  38. My dream vacation is to go to Sydney, Australia. I lived there as a little kid but I was too young to remember much. I have heard the great stories from my parents and I want to go back to relive the experience!

  39. Cuba is my goal. I feel like Cuba is misrepresented in the states due to politics but from what i hear from those who have found a way to go is that its really a beautiful place. Would love to see for myself firsthand.

  40. My dream vacation would be to go to Portugal. I have seen such beautiful pictures and I hear the food and wine are wonderful. Food is always a huge part of my decision of where to go 🙂

  41. My dream trip is to Perth. It is so far away from home, and has beautiful sandy beaches.

  42. My dream destination is Bora Bora, my wife and I got married in are home town of Fresno, Ca. but I promised someday we would go to Bora Bora for a dream vacation/honeymoon someday, she still holds me to that promise :@)

  43. My dream destination is Uruguay and Argentina with my wife for a few weeks. Enjoy the slow pace of life, the music, the food, and most importantly the nice people down there. Cheers,

  44. Wow! My dream destination is wine tasting all over Chile and Argentina. No jet lag, fabulous food and wine, marvelous scenery, and such welcoming people.

  45. A 2 week southeast Asia tour with my wife, friend(who is half Thai) and his wife. First up Hong Kong, because of its cultural history and world economics importance, next of to Macau, because most people have never even heard of it and because it is the Vegas of Asia. Then over to Bangkok for similar reasons to Hong Kong, their amazingly cheap suits they’re known for and because my friend’s family is from there and could be my personal translator to make the experience that much better. Finally finishing up in Phuket/Krabi with a trip over to Ko Phi Phi, not only because they are some of the most amazing beaches in the world with awesome rocks shooting out of the water, but because after watching “The Beach” with Leo Dicaprio, it looks like a lost paradise and a place that no one I know will ever think to venture to.

  46. Back to New Zealand for our 25th! We spent our honeymoon (2 weeks) in New Zealand, and with our 25th anniversary coming up we’d love to make another trip back down along with our daughter!

  47. Peter Dominowski | June 21, 2012 at 10:03 am |

Dream Destination is Tiger Mountain Lodge in Pokhara, Nepal. Nothing can compare with sipping your tea and feeling so close to the Himalayas that you can almost reach out and touch them!

  48. Dream destination…easy! New Zealand – the end of the world where you are outnumbered by sheep and have all the comforts of Europe and a stunning variety of landscapes.
It certainly would be quite a memorable trip!

  49. My dream destination is a European counterpart to your Southeast Asia itinerary. I’d like to see Paris, Rome, Venice, Prague, ancient Greece, and Istanbul. The rich history and architecture fascinates me.

  50. thrashsoundly | June 21, 2012 at 11:11 am |

While there are many locations in the world I’d personally love to go, I would however dream of doing one last trip with my Grandma (last living grandparent). I remember having fun travelling to London with her when I was little, but haven’t gone anywhere since. I’d love to go pick her up and fly F to wherever she would want to go since her health is sufficient right now to do so. It may be the last chance to do something cool, and would be a vacation to treasure for a lifetime.

  51. My dream destination is Singapore. I have only seen in through the tiny airplane window. It was my very first ever flight and I was very young. It was only a stopover and we did not even get out of the plane so I did not get to see much. I saw the green trees and small fishing boats and thought to myself, this is amazing. It was raining lightly (my favorite weather) and it had something to do with it. I would love to go back now.

  52. Bali–I’ve always been enchanted by this dreamy, mystical-sounding destination. Exotic enough without roughing it.

  53. My dream destination is Bali because it seems to have that perfect blend of culture, temples, beaches and cheap luxuries that I can’t afford anywhere else (i.e. day spa, day spa).

  54. Maldives it is. Just some private and intimate time with my wife with a nice ocean view. Can’t ask any better than that.

  55. My dream destination? Hokkaido, Japan. More specifically Sapporo and Niseko. Being lost in the tight, cramped Sapporo ramen alleyways slurping up the last morsel, and feasting on fresh seafood would be heavenly. Then, just a few miles away in Niseko, I can enjoy some of the finest snow on earth – just me and my snowboard wooshing knee deep, floating down.

  56. Thanks for the advice; I’ve been considering trying a booking service for a while because I feel like I’m not quite maximizing my miles, but haven’t yet taken the plunge. Next trip I think.

My dream vacation is to Montana up in the mountains, with some horses, some trails, and a lake. I love the wildlife and open space in the west and would love to experience more of it.

  57. Mine is definitely the Maldives. It seems so remote and incredibly beautiful. Pure relaxation. But I’d settle for anywhere without blackberry/cell coverage 🙂

  58. I just got back from my dream trip (an utterly amazing honeymoon to the Maldives, 1st class, the works – all using miles & points) so now I want to take my parents on THEIR dream trip. Hawaii for my dad & stepmom, and Paris for my mom & stepdad.

  59. My dream destination is the Seychelles. My wife and I have a wonderful time renting a car and driving around lush islands. We’ve done in on Hawaii, Molokai, and Antigua but think there are greater islands to conquer.

Unfortunately, the Seychelles is hard to get to. So it shall remain our dream. But there is a Hilton there!

  60. My dream destination is St. Petersburg, Russia – I would love to see the trick fountains at the Peterhof Palace, the Catherine Palace 9especially the Amber Room), The Blue Bridge and the Faberge Eggs at the Hermitage.

  61. My dream trip is to go on award travel through stopover and open jaw from Southeast Asia (Beijing, Thailand, Singapore)to Sydney to watch fireworks and ring in New Years. Will travel through Ayers Rock (work with a nonprofit my friend started that works with tribals there) and then go to Melbourne for Australian Open (am a former ranked international tennis player) and check out Great Barrier Reef. From there go to New Zealand for diving and and hop on to French Polynesian Islands for a one in a lifetime trip.

  62. RestlessLocationSyndrome | June 21, 2012 at 12:47 pm |

Conrad Bali because I plan to get married and honeymoon in Bali.

  63. Bali… Great hotels and resorts plus easy to get there using star alliance or oneworld.. Seems like paradise to me

  64. My dream destination comprises a European WWII historical trip. To follow the Allied path from the beaches of Normandy to Berlin. To go through the same towns I saw while watching Band of Brothers. To visit the sites of the Nazi concentration camps across Europe. (Auschwitz, Treblinka, Mauthausen, Dauchau, etc.). I am a WWII ‘buff’, but have never been there. If I could choose only ONE destination, I would pick Auschwitz, Poland. I’d rather stand on the grounds of Auschwitz than visit any tropical paradise in the world.

  65. A return trip back to Inawashiro, Japan where my father is from. Inawashiro is a beautiful town in Fukushima, where the tourist industry has been battered by last year’s major earthquake. I’d like to go back and do my part to help out the local economy.

  66. I also wondered about how you put 4 Stopovers into AwardTravel with US? only spending 120k. Did you use a second Award? Or is the US Chairmans Preferred Line THAT different?

  67. I still need to hit an African safari – preferrably with a trip to the Maldives or Mauritius.

  68. My dream destination is Johannesburg, South Africa. I’ve never been to Africa and South Africa looks amazing.

  69. My dream vacation would be Sai Gon (Ho Chi Minh City), South VietNam. The reason is to visit my grandmother and relatives that we have not seen in years. Thanks.

  70. I would like to take my lovely wife to Bali and use my 800K priority club points for the stay. The trip would be August 2013 for our 20 year anniversary.

  71. Wanderluster101 | June 21, 2012 at 3:38 pm |

My dream destination is Fiji. Because I’ve always said offhand that when I win the lottery, I’m going to Fiji. But, who needs the lottery, I’m going to make it happen with points and miles.

  72. Chris Reed | June 21, 2012 at 4:05 pm |

My dream is to kike the 65Km jesus trail from nazareth to capernaum.

  73. My dream destination is Kenya. The beauty of the landscape, to be sure. The wonderment of the animals in their native habitat … amazing.

But, the most wonderful aspect of this dream destination? It’s the people. Friendly, happy, people who are grateful for what they have, and happy to share with others. Truly gives you pause to reflect on life. With such a perspective, one can only be a better person.

And, so, I am grateful for the opportunity to enter and share my thoughts with all.

  74. How did you book F award to south East Asia for 120K US miles ( shouldn’t it be 160K? ). Anyways, with points and miles, only go to the moon should be in our dreams, hehe.

  75. @Peter, originally the tix was going to be 160k miles, but I changed the itinerary by 1 day and it went down to 120k miles. I didn’t question it!

  76. Dream Vacation? Have to say a trip back to Rangiroa in the Gambier Islands near Tahiti. A ring island, with an amazing drift dive you can do where you’ll see colorful fish and sharks stacked up like cord wood (the sharks are deeper, so a little farther away). We went to a church there and heard the most amazing singing with the women’s high voices and the men’s deep bass rumble. Best trip of my life. And of course, very expensive, so part of the deal is you probably can’t afford to go there very often.

  77. Seychelles

  78. My dream destination is Kenya, and I’ve never been Africa before and Kenya would be an amazing place to experience.

  79. My dream destination is South Africa, because I have a lot of extended family there. I find it interesting that from Italy, most of my distant relatives either came to America or went to South Africa.

  80. My dream vacation is Paris, France. Because I have always wanted to visit Paris Disneyland.

  81. My dream destination is Bora Bora. I have always wanted to stay in an overwater bungalow and I really hope to do this on my honeymoon!

  82. My dream destination is the beach in Belize. The reason it’s my dream destination is because it is my wife’s dream. She has always wanted to go and I would love to be able to take her where she has dreamed of going!!

  83. Botswana and Okavango Delta, where I will brave the possibility of a crocodile snatching me from my canoe, as happened to a guide recently.

  84. Carleton Hafer | June 21, 2012 at 11:31 pm |

My dream destination is Antarctica. I’ve been to the Arctic twice (once in the winter) and I’ve been to all the other continents except for Australia and Antarctica. I’ve seen pictures of the penguins and the incredible blue icebergs in Antarctica and think it would be great to see both.

  85. Michelle J. | June 21, 2012 at 11:51 pm |

My dream destination is Italy, and the reasons are many–the art, the food, the scenery, the history, the people, I could go on and on…. 🙂

  86. How come USAir did not charge 160K miles since the highest class is F and the longest distance you go on the award portion is SouthEast Asia? What am I missing?

Does it mean that since N-Asia is only is F they charge 120K and let you off with J class upto SE Asia?

    Can you please explain?

  87. Amanpulo. Why? The wife says she wants it….

  88. My dream destination is French Polynesia, because of its sheer tranquil beauty and warmth.

  89. I’d pick Sedona AZ in the fall. I’d like to go cause it’s beautiful and where I went on my honeymoon

  90. Israel is my dream destination. While i have been able to use many us air miles for some great trips, I’ve never had enough resources or time to book STL to TLV for my wife and I. Maybe next year? The reason I want to go is to research and experience places close to my Christian faith.

  91. airshadow | June 22, 2012 at 8:04 am |

My dream destination is Serengeti to experience the extraordinary rhythms of life and planet.

  92. In the third grade, our teacher asked us to form teams for an upcoming assignment. Our assignment: create a report and presentation discussing the culture for the country we selected during a subsequent drawing. Our group drew Australia. The travel bug hit me at age 8 as our team studied the Australian culture. I vowed that I would visit Australia and travel the world after that group report.

  93. I’d love to go to Iceland to watch the sky dance. That is what I imagine the Northern Lights to be like.

  94. @Apu
Apparently there are low and high fares on Air China. The US Air agent told me that a cheaper award fare was available if I changed my departure 1day. Not sure why it worked, but it did…120k for 1st.

  95. @Tovah, that’s one on my bucket list too

  96. Definitely Bora Bora!
The white sand beaches and incredible coral reefs look incredible. And the glass bottomed villas do you could look into the ocean from your bed! I’ve always wanted to swim with all the sea life down in this secluded paradise.
10,000 points will get me closer to my dream!

  97. Hong Kong

  98. Singapore, it’s perfect mix of East and West

  99. I am on my REAL dream vacation tour now — to 5 Asian Countries.

To celebrate my son’s HS graduation + 2x annoversary + visit my mom & summer inern son in CA, I booked a $50K (Bus seats + $1K value Suites) worth vacation from US – HKG – TPE – SIN – ICH – HAN – TPE – LAX/SFO 6+ months ago.

BoardingArea really provides me excellent tips to plan this dream vacation.

  100. My dream vacation would be to take my 3 children and my husband on a trip to Russia, in particularly St Petersburg. We adopted our son, Eddie from St Petersburg 11 years ago. Our older daughters were 5 and 6 when we brought him home. We have always wanted to visit as a family before our oldest graduates from high school and doesn’t want to travel
    with us anymore!

  101. Huff Daland | June 22, 2012 at 7:40 pm |

Buenos Aries … because my inner Eva Peron yearns to stand on a balcony and look down on the Argentine masses to soak in their adoration for me.

  102. Are you sure you are in TG F on the BKK-PEK leg? I thought they switched all of those flights to the 2-class A330s.

  103. I’d love to go to the Maldives to stay at an over water villa and go to an underwater restaurant.

  104. West Coast of NZ’s south island

Was scheduled to cost the glaciers but had to cancel that part of my trip at the last minute

  105. Sajer Guy | June 23, 2012 at 6:11 am |

Gotta be Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe/Zambia.

  106. Barcelona. It has both culture and a beach.

  107. It sounds like it is time to give Gary of View From The Wing or one of the others a shot for Award Booking Services.

  108. @Andrew, the point of the article is that I did give Gary of View from the Wing a shot – his service is great.

  109. Rita Corey | June 23, 2012 at 4:09 pm |

My dream trip would be to take my daughter to Scotland and Ireland. My ancestors were from Ireland and Scotland and I would love to go see where my roots are. I would also use the resources there to do more tracing of the family since I have run out of information available here. My daughter has been extremely interested in genealogy and been a huge help in tracing our family tree. This would be a dream come true for her, too.

  110. My dream destination is Cape Town, South Africa. I want to tour the vineyards, learn about the culture, and then sail up the west coast of Africa to Spain.

  111. Rio de Janeiro. A beautiful city, so blessed with natural beauty.

  112. My dream destination is Buenos Aires. This city has so much going for it. It’s hours from incredible wine country, there are strong European influences in the architecture, food and culture, Music and art are highly prized, Patagonia is right there and accessible..AND there is an amazing Hilton ideally located in the city. 10K HH would go far for this trip!

  113. There are so many options but I’m set on Krabi myself actually. I’ve been looking at local resorts and although the prices are outrageous just the fact that it’s a dream destination for a lot of people — but not everyone manages to realize that dream — makes me think that it will be well worth it.

I’m not fond of the rather ridiculously long flight from the US though, but I guess that’s the price you pay to really get away 😉

  114. Renting a home in Oia on Santorini in the Greek Isles is my dream vacation.

  115. Could be nice if my points will take me to Reykjavik and Iceland, a place so far from everyday trip planning. Hot springs, vulcanos and maybe much more to be discovered there. It nice to have this opportunity and contest to dream a little bit…

  116. Maldives, never heard before until I start reading boardingarea blog, great pic and view. It would be nice to be somewhere where no clue of what to do but just enjoy the nature.

  117. My dream destination would be the land of the midnight sun, Norway. Beign able to experience the northern lights and taking a cruise through the Fjord’s. Also, It’s where I was born but my family moved back to the states before I could even walk so being able to see Norway and experience the culture would be awesome for me!

  118. James Hong | June 24, 2012 at 1:09 am |

My dream destination would be in the Brittany region of France with my parents and grandmother. Yes, I know I’m lame because I know it only from what I’ve read about it online and seeing Bourdain there. The stunning scenery, history, food and wine, would lend me to think that it would be my dream destination. Hopefully my grandmother can tough it out another couple years and we can all go. Thanks for considering my entry!

  119. My dream vacation has always been Tokyo because as an avid of Japanese culture and anime fan, that is THE place to go and just see what the buzz of! Really wish to go there someday and go to Akihabara or Shinjuku…=)

  120. My dream destination would be Hawaii

  121. My dream destination is a safari in Ngorongoro Conservation Area. The giant crater is an amazing place to spot wildlife.

  122. Basel, Switzerland: I’ve always wanted to explore the cities of Switzerland, and Basel has a Hilton right next to the Basel train Station.

We’ll explore Basel on the first day and then take day trips by train to the capital city of Bern, then the following days at the lake side cities of Lucerne and Zurich.

Finally, from Basel we’ll take the train north to the French resort town of Colmar for two days and one night, then on to Strasbourg for one night and one day. From Strasbourg we’ll take the train West to Nancy for two nights and one day, before the final destination of Paris. After a few days in Paris, it’ll be time to head back to the USA.

We’ll fly into Basel using United miles and flying Lufthansa, and fly out of Paris using American Airline miles. Now, if you can send us 10,000 Hilton Honors points, we’ll be 10,000 points closer to taking this trip. Thank you, in advance.

  123. Cairo, coz’ I haven’t been there yet!

  124. baccudi beach resort in aruba, lots of good family memories.

I would love to visit Rome and enjoy the millennia of history; I know it is the eternal city but that is no excuse for me to wait for a visit.

My dream vacation is to fly business class to Sydney, AU, and catch the Indian Pacific train to Perth in a bedroom car then fly home business class from Perth! It would satisfy my wish to visit AU, my fascination with train travel, and flying business class trans Pacific!

My dream destination is Tahiti. That blue ocean has been on my dreams since ages.

  128. Dream destination is Venice. Seems like an amazing city and a marvel! Need to visit it before global warming takes over it.

  129. Dream is bora bora because thats where my SO wants to go.

  130. My dream destination is Machu Picchu in Peru. I would like to experience taking a train to the Cusco region to see the Inca ruins.

  131. Sydney is my dream destination because I would love to see the Great Barrier Reef in person.

  132. There was a book that I read many years ago that was set in Venice. Since then I have always wanted to visit Venice (want to stay at the Hilton Molino Stucky) and see the canals in person. In addition I am part Irish and Scots and would love to visit there as well. So my dream vacation would be to fly to Venice for a visit and then on to Dublin for a few days, then take the train up to Belfast and visit my cousin. Then fly to Glasgow and see some of Scotland before making our way down to London (loved staying in the Hilton Park Lane when I was there before) by car or train and then finally heading home.

  133. I’d love to go to Namibia and spend a week visiting the game parks seeing these wonderful animals up close while they still exist in the wild. My wife and I spent our honeymoon in India and this would be a great new adventure!

  134. My dream destination is pretty much anywhere that I haven’t been to yet. My goal is to see as much of the world as I can get to, so any place I haven’t seen is game for me. If I had to pick one spot specifically, Istanbul is near the top of my list right now. I want to explore history through its beautiful architecture and eat the delicious food there.

  135. Our dream is Alaska! We can book it now for a little over 10k points 😉

  136. My dream destination is Australia. I would love to visit the Great Coral Reefs and the rain forest.

  137. my dream destination would be hawaii. I’d like to spend a weeklong vacation with my family since they dont’ have the means to travel around as much.

  138. Start off with a trip to Ushuaia, Argentina, and then a cruise to Antarctica, how many people have ever been there? That would be the trip of a lifetime!

  139. My dream destination is somewhere peaceful and away from everything. Maldives will do.

  140. Richie Rich | June 24, 2012 at 7:42 am |

Australia—such a beautiful place and it’s inbelieveable that the British used to send their criminals there.

  141. Robby Hill | June 24, 2012 at 7:47 am |

My dream destination is Dubai, UAE. Because its the hub of commerce for a region and it is easy to access for foreigners to transact business or just visit for vacation and sight seeing.

  142. Bora Bora. Cause of the movie Couples Retreat

  143. My dream vacation is to go to China — first to Beijing to hike the Great Wall, then to Shanghai where my grandparents escaped to during WW II, and then to Hong Kong to marvel at the skyline.

  144. BOShappyflyer | June 24, 2012 at 8:04 am |

My dream destination(s) are all the places I wanted to visit, but still haven’t visited yet. For the near term, that would be Hawaii and any one of its islands!

  145. Bora Bora, Fiji… Glassy blue water and a hut over the water to sleep in. What else does anyone need…

  146. We have been dreaming of Hawaii for some time. Would love to make it the Christmas while our daughter is home from college.

  147. Dainya Olsen | June 24, 2012 at 8:22 am |

My dream vacation is a trip to Fiji, since I was a little girl ive always dreamed of going there for the beautiful water and scenery.

  148. My dream destination is bora bora and one of the huts out on the water on stilts. I had a picture of this on the wall at a company I worked at years ago and will make it happen at some point in the future.

  149. Nick Handy | June 24, 2012 at 8:33 am |

I want to visit Koh Samui. I’ve never been to Asia and the villas look great!

  150. I want to visit Chicago. I love the city and don’t get to spend enough time in the actual city

  151. my dream destination is less of a dream for me, but more for my mom, who has gone through a lot of sh*t the last couple of years. all she wants to do is travel the world, but is unable to for a plethora of small reasons. she would love to go to beijing one day and then go to the great wall. she’s from taiwan, and has been there many times, but has never been to china, and it’s a big dream for her.

  152. Bora Bora. To stay in an over the water bungalow and scuba dive with Manta Rays.

  153. My dream vacation spot is Bhutan! I’m eager to see a country that’s resisted the rapid modernization and has tried to hold on to its culture and traditions. I think I also must admit that I’m drawn to its exclusivity. Thanks for having this contest! 🙂

  154. My dream destination is in the Maldives, the trip getting there would be half the fun!!!

  155. Beijing to see the great wall

  156. My dream destination would be the bay of islands and continuing to the northern tip of new Zealand. I missed this on a past trip to NZ. Aside from it’s natural beauty I have heard that the meeting of the atlantic and pacific has more sea wildlife than any other area. Even if that isn’t true it is still new Zealand.

  157. I would love to take my kids to see the Galapagos Islands. I worry that they will not be as majestic and diverse as they are now by the time they can take themselves. At six and fourteen, they are old enough to appreciate the beauty of nature, but not too old to be jaded to it. I would want them to experience the wonder as kids!

  158. Thailand is the place i want to go.

  159. I would like to take my nephew to Alaska for the NHRS (railroading) annual convention next year. We are planning on staying at Hilton Anchorage and I am short points.

  160. It’s Thailand. I went to Thailand once 15 years ago. The place still sticks in my head as the country with the most generous and kind people, most beautiful beaches, tasty and delicous food, most suculent fresh fruit. I’d like to have my family now that I am married experience the same. Thank you!

  161. My dream vacation is Bora Bora – the water has to be some of the most magnificent I’ve ever seen.

  162. My dream trip is to Tanzania – to hike mt. Kilimanjaro , go on a safari then head north back to morocco to stay at amanjena…in the process of planning now.

  163. I would choose Costa Rica to visit their Eco friendly resorts and adventures

  164. My dream vacation would be to tour and photograph the castles and historic sites of Germany and Austria.

  165. My choice is the Maldives, as I have never been there and would like to experience the Conrad resort there.

  166. My dream destination would be China. I’ve always wanted to see the teracota (sp?) warriors

  167. I want to go to Sydney. I want to see the opera house and also make a trip to the Great BArrier Reef.

  168. I want to go to Thailand. I would love to see the beaches!

  169. HA HA HA! I have to laugh at my sub 3rd grade geography skills. I knew something didn’t sound right with Atlantic and Pacific meeting in NZ (that is probably Cape Town). Anyhow it is where Tasman Sea and Pacific meet.

  170. My dream booking would follow like this:

ATL to HKG stopover 2 days
HKG to MNL stopover and overland travel to visit inlaws for 3 days. Pick up inlaws and proceed from
MNL to Amanpulo for 7 days on Amanpulos private puddle jumper, then back to MNL drop of inlaws
MNL to HKT for 7 days
    HKT back home to ATL

This is my dream booking abeacus of the shear number of places it would allow me to see, and the excellent beaches I could get to, and dive at.

  171. Dream Destination = Maui! Why? Miles of peaceful beaches, the people and culture, and pure relaxation! Trying to get enough points for free hotel and flight for Oct/Nov! Almost there!!!

  172. My dream destination is to spend some time (at least a month) in Australia and New Zealand. It is too long of a flight, not be able to spend some serious time there, but finding time and resources to go is on my to do list. I have always wanted to see the Great Barrier Reef and the Outback.

  173. My dream destination is Kyoto, because I would like to experience the history and beautiful temples and gardens of this ancient Japanese capital first hand.

  174. My dream destination is Hawaii. I would love to enjoy the beach and adventures.

  175. My dream trip begins in Chile, starting at the top in the Atacama before heading south all the way to Punta Arenas (with a side trip to Easter Island in between), then over to Ushuaia in Argentina where I would board a ship to Antarctica, which is the only continent I have yet to visit.

  176. My dream destination is Ambergris Caye, Belize. My wife and I got married there six years ago and brought our immediate family and a few very close friends. After the ceremony we and our guests stayed for several days, and unfortunately my wife and I didn’t have time by ourselves.

We now have a three year old son and would like to return to the beach where we got married with our son so that we can enjoy this beautiful island – just the three of us.

  177. My dream vacation is London where I can enjoy the great shopping and the amazing shows offered in the WestEnd District.

  178. New Zealand it is !!!

    1. I’d love to see in person 10:1 sheep to people ratio in NZ
    2. I’d love to try my hand in snowboarding, sailing, skydiving, trekking and of-course in Bungy Jumping
    3. How can I forget the stunning landscapes, glorious beaches, the upthrust volcanoes

    Oh…i am drooling here !

  179. hawaii for the weather

  180. pennsylvania

  181. My dream vacation would be to visit Capetown, South Africa – having been both a long time admirer of Nelson Mandela , who sacrificed so many years of his life for the benefit of so many disenfranchised people, and an enthusiastic imbiber of wines from South Africa. What better than to be able to toast a great man’s memorable 20th century gesture in his homeland with an outstanding local vintage in 2012, while he is still with us ?

  182. Destination:London. My wife and I dream of visiting London at Christmas to visit our newly married daughter and son-in-law. A short ferry ride to Amsterdam would be icing on the cake.

  183. My dream destination would be Moorea, because I love mountains, tropics, beaches and seclusion. I have never seen a photo of that place that wasn’t stunning.

  184. I have so many travel dreams, one coming true in just weeks-Grand Cayman! Just redeemed my AA miles for my round-trip ticket (and after viewing your itinerary, I suck at this!), hubby will redeem points for his RT ticket and I have points that will convert to cash to pay 1/2 the hotel bill (hello summer sales!) so we are out maybe $600 plus food and driving and diving. One dream trip on the way! But there is one dream trip that I considered but put off because of how expensive it is so here is my NEXT dream trip….England/Scotland. A few days in London, then off to stay in a castle, perhaps practice falconry and a traditional English cottage somewhere else in England, see some famous English gardens (whose names escape me at the moment!) then off to Soctland for hubby to explore his ancestry and me to explore Edinburgh. It will be amazing.

My dream destination is Tahiti. I spent my honeymoon with my wife five years ago in Phuket Island, and then we went to the Phiphi ialand, when the boat stop at the Maya Bay, all of others went to snorkeling, only my wife stay on the boat because she was pregnant at that time. I always feel regret that I didn’t let her to snorkeling at that time and I didn’t go to sea side for about five years.
No I have a lovely son, so I have a dream to take my wife and son to Tahiti beach to swimming, snorkeling and diving.

  186. My dream vacation is to go to the Great Barrier Reef and dive all week. I love the ocean and animals contained within.

  187. Taiwan, with my bicycle. I’ve been there several years ago with the girl of my dreams. I loved this little island much more than I expected and always thought it would be a great place to tour around with a bike (the other love of my life).

  188. Laura Case | June 24, 2012 at 3:30 pm |

My dream vacation would be to explore Thailand with my youngest brother. We both love to volunteer and I would love to take a trip where we could help in some way there. We have done Habitat for Humanity, English tutoring and we would love to work with a local orphanage. We are so blessed to live in the US and traveling always reminds me of that.

  189. @Pietje – I didn’t use 120k miles for 4 stopovers. I used 120k miles for 1 stop over, Singapore. The blog posts notes the flights that aren’t purchased using miles.

  190. Book my travel itinerary to behold the 7 wonders of the world.

  191. My 25th wedding anniversary is coming up soon and I’d love to take my wife back to the French Riviera, especially Eze. We had a truly magical vacation there about 20+ years ago.

  192. My dream destination would be to go to Tahiti, Moorea and Bora Bora. This is my dream destination because of its beautiful turquoise waters, I imagine my own private little hut on the water with my husband and its such a romantic place to go, it is also very far and an expensive place. Great way to use your points and get a great value out of them.

  193. My dream vacation would be to go to Oahu.
