The Sights And Sounds of Barrio Bellavista in Santiago Chile

The best way to describe Barrio Bellavista is that it’s really the red headed stepchild of Barrio Lastarria. Barrio Bellavista boasts a lot of street food mixed in with a lot of inexpensive restaurants, whereas in Lastarria, it’s mostly upscale fine dining. The best thing about Barrio Bellavista is that it’s very artsy and always crowded with people, just like Barrio Lastarria.

To get to the Bellavista neighborhood, you get off at the Baquedano metro station and walk north of Plaza Italia onto Pio Nono street.

As I crossed the street in Bellavista, I noticed a small protest led by young children.

The Bellavista neighborhood is very middle class and even contains a university, the Universidad San Sebastian.

Street vendors are plentiful selling hotdogs, empanadas, and the local favorite drink, mote con huesillo.

There are various local vendors selling handicrafts, pottery, art, and tiles at Artesania Chilena.

There is a local swap meet called Feria Artesanal Bellavista that sells souvenirs, clothing, art, and small trinkets.

The main attraction of Bellavista is Patio Bellavista where is basically an outdoor mall that contains shops and restaurants. Patio Bellavista is more known widely for its upscale sit down restaurants and pricier souvenirs.
