The Sights and Sounds of El Salitre in Bogota

Barrio El Salitre is a working class neighborhood in Bogota, Colombia. El Salitre or Ciudad Salitre was one of my favorite neighborhoods because of its authenticity in food, arts, and culture. El Salitre reminds me of the East Los Angeles of Bogota, Colombia.

The neighborhood of Ciudad Salitre is mostly comprised of mom & pop shops and it’s very heavily dense with multi-family apartment complexes.

This is an example of how trash collection works in El Salitre:

One of the famous landmarks in Ciudad Salitre is the Maloka Museum which is an interactive science museum in Bogota.

You can also enter the Maloka Museum by entering the adjacent glass building which resembles the Louvre.

Nearby the Maloka Museum, I spotted a local celebrity getting interviewed by a reporter with fans nearby. They were screaming pretty loud!

Across from the Maloka Museum is Parque Sauzalito which can be accessed from a bridge.

There were street vendors hawking their wares in Parque Sauzalito.

Here’s a picture of some cool graffiti art in Parque Sauzalito:

Ciudad Salitre is home to a shopping mall called Salitre Plaza. You can find a supermarket, shops, and restaurants in this complex.

Across the street from Salitre Plaza is a church called Iglesia Parroquial La Medalla Milagrosa.

Another great shopping complex in Ciudad Salitre is the nearby Gran Estacion Mall. The Gran Estacio Centro Comercial Mall is more upscale inside and even contains a movie theater.

The best part about the Gran Estacion Mall was the outside plaza. There were local Colombian musicians performing and also an outdoor flea market.
