The Sights and Sounds of Plaza El Amate in Guatemala City

Plaza El Amate is a large shopping complex located in Zona 1 of Guatemala City. I got there by walking South from Plaza Constitucional to the Transmetro station called Estacion El Amate. On the outside, it looks like a circular stadium that is filled with vendor stalls.

The best way to reach Plaza El Amate is by taking the Transmetro to Estacion El Amate. As you can see from the sign, there are also food options such as Pollo Campero (fried chicken), Sarita (helado or ice cream), and many other fast food joints.

Here are some pictures of the vendor stalls which mostly sell clothing, DVDs, and games.

Plaza El Amate is a great shopping option is you want to avoid the tightly packed streets and have more breathing room. The prices are basically the same as they would be under the many tent stalls outside.
