Two months ago I was fed up with Delta Air Lines because of their constant devaluations and decided to use up my Delta Skymiles on a trip to Guatemala City, Guatemala. There was low level saver availability and it cost me 35,000 Skymiles and $52.60 in taxes for travel in economy class. Since I am a Delta Air Lines Gold Medallion elite, it’s possible for me for get upgraded on award tickets (and I did).

I completed this trip back in February and wrote about my thoughts of Guatemala City. I was particularly interested in learning more about the culture and history of Guatemala and that’s what sparked the trip. In addition, there weren’t many trip reports to Guatemala City and the forums were quite dead on TripAdvisor. It got me curious about tourism traffic in Guatemala and I wondered if Guatemala City was as dangerous as it was stated online.
