I went to a kilo restaurant called Levemix at Downtown Shopping in Barra da Tijuca. Kilo restaurants are the way to go because you can choose whatever you want from the buffet and only pay by the pound (in this case, in kilos).
Lunch came out to be R$25.00 ~ $10.33 USD for all this food which is a complete bargain.
In Centro Rio de Janeiro, I was told about a very popular restaurant called Confeitaria Colombo which is one of Rio’s classic eateries. It’s a beautiful restaurant that makes it look like you’re in the 1920’s with high ceilings and mirrors.
There’s so much to choose from at this restaurant ranging from classic Brazilian snacks to desserts. I wasn’t that hungry, so I opted for a pear shaped Coxinha which is a Brazilian chicken croquette.
One of my favorite Brazilian snack foods is the Pastel de Queijo which is a brownish fried pie with cheese filling.
I washed it down with my favorite Brazilian soft drink, Guarana which comes in a variation called Kuat!
I’m a huge fan of street food and I saw a vendor selling hot dogs, bacon wrapped frango (chicken), and picanha (beef) skewers.
I had the picanha kebab with farofa (Brazilian toasted manioc flour) which was delicious.
I had dinner one night in a restaurant called Picanha in Barra da Tijuca.
I ordered the chicken with mushrooms and risotto which was delicious.
I washed it down with a caipirinha, Brazil’s national cocktail.
