I booked a one-way flight on Etihad Airways from Los Angeles to Abu Dhabi in First Class using 90,000 American Airlines miles and $6 worth of taxes. On my return flight, I booked a one-way flight on Turkish Airlines from Dubai to Frankfurt with a long layover in Istanbul and an overnight layover in Frankfurt before continuing on Lufthansa from Frankfurt to Los Angeles in Economy Class. I booked this flight using only 40,000 United Airlines miles and $96.50 worth of taxes.

We all shared the costs of the rental car and hotel rooms which made the Middle East quite inexpensive.
