Trip Report: My Mileage Run Vacation to Singapore

I’m about to embark on a trip to Singapore tonight via Dallas Fort Worth and Narita. I booked the trip for $875.20 ($441+ $434.20 in taxes) back in November of last year. I was excited to see this outstanding low fare to Singapore, a place I’ve always been intrigued with. Deals to Singapore are by far the hardest ones to come across to when seeking elite qualifying miles on American Airlines.

My routing is LAX-DFW-NRT-SIN-NRT-LAX:

My American Airlines segments are LAX-DFW-NRT and NRT-LAX which cleared a few days ago using two SWU’s (Systemwide Upgrades). The Narita to Singapore and Singapore to Narita portions are operated on Japan Air Lines which is codeshare with American. The downside is that the JAL segments only earn 30% EQM’s (elite qualifying miles) on a Q fare, but it’s better than nothing. Thankfully, I’ve secured emergency exit rows for being a oneworld alliance member and I’m hoping for some sort of miracle upgrade to a JAL Sky Suite. Taking this all into account, I will be earning a total of 15,107 EQM’s at a rate of 5.8 cents per mile. It’s a little over 5cpm, but this is Singapore that we’re talking about and it doesn’t get any better than this.

This will be my first time to Singapore and I’m pretty excited. I will be staying at the W Sentosa Cove and the newly opened Westin Singapore hotel. It’s a really short trip, so I hope I can make the best out of my three days in Singapore. You can follow me on my journey to Singapore on Twitter and Instagram.
