The Sights and Sounds of Haig Road in Singapore

Haig Road is a quiet Muslim neighborhood that borders Geylang and Old Airport Road. There is plenty of shopping and dining to be had on Haig Road, but it’s mostly catered to the locals. You will find lots of Muslim related shopping items and some of the best Muslim food can be found on Haig Road. This is a non-touristy neighborhood that should not be overlooked by a visitor.

I started my journey walking to Haig Road from the Geylang neighborhood passing by the famous Mattar Road No Signboard Seafood Restaurant.

Geylang Road and Haig Road intersect with each other next to a large park.

You can find lots of shopping centers on Haig Road such as City Plaza, Tanjong Katong Complex, and the Joo Chiat Complex.

haigroad4 haigroad5 haigroad6

There is even 24 hour shopping on Haig Road which specializes in Muslim clothing.

haigroad7 haigroad8 haigroad9

Since Haig Road is a predominately Muslim neighborhood, there is also a Muslim Converts’ Association of Singapore (Darul Arqam Singapore).

There are also temples for worship as well.

There is no shortage of food on Haig Road and some of the best Indian and Muslim food comes from hawker stalls at Pasar Geylang Serai and the Haig Road Market and Food Center.

haigroad12 haigroad13 haigroad14

There are also individual restaurants on Haig Road, but stick to hawker centers and food houses such as the Eastern Wind Foodhouse where some of the best local food can be had.
