The Sights and Sounds of Orchard Road in Singapore

Orchard Road is the main retail hub of Singapore and is considered a tourist attraction. If you feel the need to shop, there are about 15 shopping areas which include mega malls, gallerias, and plazas. You will find very few street vendors on Orchard Road, but haggling is permitted in the smaller plazas. If you’re looking for food, you will find a food court inside every mall on Orchard Road.

It’s very easy to get to Orchard Road via Singapore’s mass rapid transit which is simply called the Orchard Road MRT Station. I was in Tiong Bahru and took a double decker public bus to Orchard Road.

Orchard Road has mega malls such as Scott’s Square, ION Orchard, Isetan, and Wheelock Place.

This is what a typical multi story mega mall will look like inside with top designer luxury brands.

If you’re looking for moderately priced items, head to the Forum Shopping Mall.

The bargain basement shopping on Orchard Road consists of Plazas such as Royal Plaza on Scotts and the Far East Plaza.

I like the Far East Shopping Center and there are plenty of mom and pop shops where you can find a good deal. Don’t overlook the basement as there are more shops underneath and don’t get lost in the labyrinth.
