LAN Airlines SCL-MEX 767-300 Economy Class

Not many people in the miles and points blogosphere cover economy class flights. It’s even rarer to see a South American carrier economy class flight review on the internet. I flew in economy class on LAN Airlines from SCL-MEX (Santiago to Mexico City). The total in-air flight time was 8 and a half hours.

The economy coach cabin on the Boeing 767-300 (763) was in a 2-3-2 configuration.

It was a red-eye flight and there was a coach amenity kit which consisted of an orange eye mask and ear plugs.

There was also a TV screen in the back of each seat for in-flight entertainment.

Headphones were provided in the seat back pocket in case you want to listen to music or watch something from the in-flight entertainment.

I was able to secure an exit row seat during online check-in due to my American Airlines Executive Platinum elite status.

The economy class dinner meal consisted of beef with potatoes, a side salad, cheese, crackers, and a dessert. That’s actually a lot of food in one plate and LAN Airlines uses real dishware.

After meal service, I reclined my seat and got some rest as I never touched the in-flight entertainment system. An hour and a half before arrival in Mexico City, I was served breakfast which was an omelet with bread and a side of fruit.

I was fortunate to be able to secure an exit row aisle seat on this flight because the legroom made a huge difference. The flight time is almost nine hours and it can be unbearable in a middle seat with no extra legroom. The service was fantastic on LAN Airlines and the flight attendants are always willing to accommodate any type of request.

  1. Glad to see reviews with economy seating. I always see first & business class reviews online but prefer to fly coach so I can get more trips out of my award miles 🙂

    • Thank you Lynn. I try and weasel my way out of economy class if possible using elite status, but the reality is that when I pay for a coach revenue flight, I expect to be in coach. I try to keep it real on my trip reports and you’re absolutely right, you will get more out of your award miles that way!
