W Taipei Hotel Review Part 1

My third and final Starwood night in Taipei was at the W Taipei hotel where I redeemed 20,000 Starpoints for an award night. This was the largest Starpoint redemption I have ever done and it was well worth it. Part 1 of this review will go over the room details and happy hour at the Woobar and Yen Bar. Part 2 of this hotel review will go over The Kitchen Table restaurant breakfast offerings.

I took the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) subway metro to the Taipei City Hall Station where it was a 2 minute walk to the W Taipei hotel.

You have to take an elevator upstairs to the main lobby area which is also called the ‘Living Room’.

wtaipeihotel2

The front desk agent advised me that I was upgraded to a Marvelous Suite which I had used a Suite Night Award (SNA) and cleared five days prior to arrival. As a SPG Platinum member, I chose breakfast as my welcome amenity which is at The Kitchen Table restaurant.

wtaipeihotel3

The front desk agent also handed me a voucher for access to unlimited complimentary happy hour cocktails at the Woobar and the Yen Bar from 5pm-7pm. The vouchers are for Starwood Platinum Gold and Platinum members.

The Marvelous Suite living room was enormous and consisted of an executive desk, TV, sofa, and seating for two by the window.

There was also a personalized welcome letter that was addressed to the wrong person and a plate of whole fruit. I have no idea who Ms. Lin was and the hotel profusely apologized for the error.

wtaipeihotel12

The Marvelous Suite was also billed a ‘Pure Room’ which means there was a machine in the living room that purified the air.

wtaipeihotel13

The separate bedroom consisted of a King size bed, TV, and seating by the window.

The bathroom featured a double basin sink with the usual W Bliss Spa amenities and two bottles of complimentary water.

wtaipeihotel17 wtaipeihotel18 wtaipeihotel19

There was also a standing shower and a large soaking bathtub with a small mounted LCD TV.

The best part about the room was the amazing view of Taipei.

wtaipeihotel23 wtaipeihotel24

Taipei even looks better during the night.

wtaipeihotel25

After settling into my room, it was time to head downstairs to the Woobar for happy hour. I was excited about the unlimited complimentary drinks as exquisite cocktails in Taipei are pretty much the same price as in the US ($12-18 USD).

Here’s the unlimited complimentary drink menu for SPG Platinum and Gold Members:

wtaipeihotel28

Bubbly By The Glass – Chandon, Brut, Australia
Wine By The Glass – Terrazas, Malbec Reserva, Mendoza, Argentina
Cocktails – Taipei Mojito, Belvedere Martini, Margarita, Sangria
Beers – Taiwan Golden, Heineken
Spirits – Belvedere Citrus, Tanqueray Gin, Hennessey VSOP
Still / Sparkling Water – Fiji, Perrier
Juices – Orange Juice, Grapefruit Juice
Softs – Coca Cola, Coca Cola Diet, Coca Cola Zero, Sprite, Ginger Ale, Soda Water, Tonic Water

The waitress took my drink order and placed complimentary assorted rice crackers at my table.

wtaipeihotel29

I ordered a margarita, champagne, Taipei mojito, and sangria which were delicious.

One hour passed by and I headed up to the Yen Bar where the voucher was honored for the same unlimited complimentary cocktail happy hour. I ordered another Taipei mojito from the Yen Bar.

wtaipeihotel34

The best part about the Yen Bar was the amazing view of Taipei 101.

  1. Great post. I am headed to the W Taipei in December – also a SPG Platinum. Curious if you have any restaurant recommendations around the hotel. Also – any must do activities in Taipei?

    Thanks!
