The Sights and Sounds of Shinjuku in Tokyo Japan

The Shinjuku district is a commercial area of Tokyo with many administrative governmental buildings. My visit to the Shinjuku neighborhood was very brief, so this isn’t a comprehensive list of things to do in Shinjuku.

Instead of taking the Tokyo metro subway from Harajuku Station to Shinjuku Station, I opted to walk since it wasn’t that far. It was a 30 minute walk from Harajuku to Shibuya Station, but it only takes 5 minutes by subway on the Yamanote Line.

There’s plenty of shopping to be had near Shinjuku Station such as Forever 21 and large shopping mall called Takashimaya Times Square which features a large department store, Takashimaya.

Shinjuku is also famous for housing Shinjuku Station, the busiest train station in the world.

Aside from the mega malls, I found the small side streets of Shinjuku to be much more interesting.

There is an endless amount of noodle shops, ramen restaurants, and cafes.

One of the most interesting shops in Shinjuku was an arcade called SEGA which had coin operated ‘pay per play’ machines.

Many of the machines were claw games where you can win various prizes such as a stuffed animal (in this case, Ted).
