The Sights and Sounds of San Telmo in Buenos Aires

San Telmo is mostly a residential neighborhood located south of Microcenter and Monserrat with a touristy street called La Defensa.  San Telmo is also most famously known for its tango in Buenos Aires, Argentina. It’s a great people watching neighborhood with a plethora of bars and restaurants. In addition, it’s a great place to see free live tango dancing.

San Telmo’s neighborhood inherits architecture from the French infused with bohemian qualities. The streets of San Telmo are very quaint and quite lively during the night.

San Telmo is home to the Museum of Modern Art of Buenos Aires and government buildings.

Local bodegas can be found on the street corners of San Telmo.

There are two main shopping galleries in San Telmo which are for antiques and handicrafts (Galeria de la Immaculada Concepcion Antiguedades and Artesanos de Argentina).

Local trendy shops can be found all on La Defensa Street.

There are a plethora of restaurants, bars, and cafes all along Calle La Defensa in San Telmo.

You can find free live tango dancers at Plaza Dorrego in San Telmo. This is the best place to see free tango dancing in Buenos Aires, Argentina without having to tip.
