I took the Mexico City subway to Coyoacan metro station which was right across the street from the large Centro Coyoacan Mall.

There was a nearby Presbyterian church called the Iglesia Nacional Presbiteriana.

coyoacan2

I walked towards the Museo Frida Kahlo which is the Frida Kahlo museum and there was an enormous line. I really wanted to check out the museum, but I’d have to go earlier next time when I’m not pressed for time.

coyoacan3

I walked south of the Frida Kahlo museum towards Parque Allende where there were street vendors selling their beautiful artwork.

Coyoacan is also home to Mi Mercado Coyoacan which is the central marketplace where you can find fresh local produce.

coyoacan9

This is a typical street in Coyoacan where the sidewalks are filled with wares.

There’s also a famous coffee shop called Cafe El Jarocho – El Aroma con Tradicion desde 1953 en Coyoacan (since 1953).

coyoacan12

Right next to Café El Jarocho was a Creperia which sells crepes.

coyoacan13

There is also a public library called the Libreria El Sotano and the Coyoacan Cultural Center (Foro Cultural Coyoacanese).

coyoacan14 coyoacan15

Plenty of shopping can be done at the Mercado Artesanal Mexicano, the local Mexican Artisan market in Coyoacan.

coyoacan16

There are also many shops, restaurants, and pharmacies around the area.

coyoacan17 coyoacan18 coyoacan19

The main central part of Coyoacan is the Plaza del Centenario where you can find a beautiful coyote fountain in Jardín Centenario.

coyoacan20

Located in Plaza del Centenario is the Casa Municipal or also known as the Casa de Cortés (House of Cortes) which is a government building.

coyoacan21

There are also beautiful churches located in Plaza del Centenario, one of which is the Parish of San Juan Bautista.

  1. Hello,
I enjoyed the pics of Coyoacan. I was there end of April 2015. The main area where the cafes are located are a mile from Coyoacan metro.
I have a question re. the metros. Are the metros converting the ticket turn styles to
    smart cards?
    Respectfully,
    Eric
