The Sights and Sounds of Arena Mexico in Mexico City

I’ve been to Mexico City so many times and I’ve always wanted to go to a Mexican Wrestling (Lucha Libre) match at Arena Mexico. Most of the fights take place on Fridays which is the best day to go. I’d highly recommend to NOT purchase tickets at Ticketmaster because of the fees. The matches don’t sell out and it’s much better to buy them in person at the box office.

I took the Mexico City subway to the Cuauhtemoc metro station where it was an eight minute walk to the Arena Mexico.

I bought the cheapest ticket which was General Admission for 35 pesos ~($2.68 USD).

I was also handed a program for tonight’s Lucha Libre match.

arenamexico3

There were lots of vendors selling Luchador masks around Arena Mexico.

arenamexico4

I highly recommend street food for a quite bite before the match as there are many nearby street vendors and fast-casual hole in the wall restaurants.

arenamexico5

You can basically sit anywhere in the upper level with a General Admission ticket, so it was a pretty good bargain. I watched the Men’s Lucha Libre first.

The Women’s Lucha Libre was pretty exciting as well.

I would highly recommend a trip to Arena Mexico as it makes for a really cheap Friday night out. It’s awesome to watch real Mexican wrestling in Mexico!

  1. Awesome! I’m a wrestling fan, never really gotten into Lucha, but I had thought about taking a layover or even just a cheap trip to MEX one day and this definitely sold me on making sure I check out some Lucha. So cheap too which is great.

Do they sell beer in the arena? I know in Colombia at soccer games they don’t because they don’t want the crowd getting drunk (so most just show up drunk lol).

Is the Arena in a half decent area of Mexico City? I’m pretty confident when travelling around in Latin America but I don’t know the city at all, so I’d want to make sure to not be strolling around if it’s in a shady area.
